A POWERFUL earthquake rocked the centre of Melbourne right now leaving homes shaking.
The quake struck at an estimated magnitude of 4.5 Richter, round 14 miles north of the town.
The tremor was recorded round 11.40pm native time (14.40 BST), with its epicenter north of St Albans, based on the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
The Victoria State Emergency Service tweeted: “A magnitude-3.8 earthquake has been recorded with an epicentre close to Sunbury, Victoria.
“The earthquake occurred at 11.41pm, with widespread felt studies. No accidents or harm have been recorded at the moment.”
Dr Dee Ninis, an earthquake geologist, stated: “A preliminary M4.0 earthquake close to Sunbury-Mickleham-Cragieburn round 5 minutes in the past, extensively felt throughout Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.”


Melbourne’s residents took to social media to report the quake with many saying they had been asleep when it occurred.
