Ghannouchi, head of the Ennahdha get together, is essentially the most distinguished critic of Tunisian President Kais Saied.
Ennahdha introduced on Twitter that Ghannouchi had been ″taken from his residence″ after a police search and stated it “condemns this very harmful growth.” His lawyer Nejib Chebbi instructed The Related Press that Ghannouchi was detained.
The explanation for the detention was not made public. Tunisian media reported that Ghannouchi was to be questioned over a video circulating on-line wherein he purportedly warns of civil struggle.
Ghannouchi has been detained previously for questioning on suspicion of cash laundering and terrorism financing by way of a charity. He has denied wrongdoing and his get together says the accusations are politically pushed.
Saied shut down the Ennahdha-led parliament in 2021 and has since moved to consolidate energy amid rising public disillusionment with Tunisia’s democracy.
